I contributed a few thoughts about Cormac McCarthy's immense powers & achievements to this piece, w/ Annie Proulx, Stephen King, & others. I had things to say abt his prose rhythms, his pen of iron & the importance of "and" & "OK" in his work.

I was taught in journalism school that the role of journalists is to provide answers to readers, not print questions. If you need to ask readers for the answer you either haven’t done your job as a journalist or perhaps you don’t have the story that you thought you had.

🧵Five years today ago I went on a date. He was one of my fellow hairdresser and friend Kerry’s clients. We’d had an interaction in the salon when I told him his newly grown white/grey beard looked great and if he kept it till Christmas he could get some work as Father Christmas

The fossil fuel industry is at the heart of the climate crisis. The problem is not simply fossil fuel emissions. It’s fossil fuels—period. Countries must progressively phase them out, moving to leave oil, coal & gas in the ground—and massively boost renewable investments.
