Curiously worded ad(?) for Ubuntu Pro in the "apt upgrade" output: "Get more security updates through Ubuntu Pro" I assume this doesn't mean they're withholding security updates for non-paying users. But... what do they mean? 🤔

All of these are EOL? So if you need them and want them without security issues you need to pay. A lot of software vendors do that I think? On Linux you can at least always self compile.

Not really an argument. If we follow down this line we end up with RHEL 6 which has paid extended lifecycle support right now, but no free rebuilds that provide the same. Now what?
So it's a usecase for Ubuntu Pro's service that starts extended backports at 5 years, but not for RHEL which starts those at 10 years (compared to free rebuilds). At how many years do you draw the line then? Seems pretty arbitrary
