I don't even need to know what Griff said because Griff been Griffin' for 30 years.

I'm guessing Nick hadn't heard of David Mills.https://twitter.com/_brandoc/status/1283269449328594944?s=20 …

And I'm not knocking Nick. He'll be fine; that man keeps a venture poppin' and he's on a journey. EYE'M just saying Viacom being like "Welp... we're good here" should inspire the opposite of shock and awe.

I def wasn’t suggesting he was, but exactly what I said: he calcualted the risk to have the convo he wants. Nick lost AGT years ago on some “too Black” sh*t & Ncredible has been a Nickelodeon partnership in addition to Wilding Out for yrs. He knew. https://twitter.com/mj0164/status/1283379853060911111?s=21 …https://twitter.com/mj0164/status/1283379853060911111 …

And that’s really the thing; Viacom severing ties with Nick wasn’t even really about “Wildin’ Out,” Nick is a Nickelodeon EXECUTIVE. He was the CHAIRMAN of TeenNick. Just having Griff in the chair was setting a bomb off.

To frame how incendiary Griff is for any who may not know, Chuck himself was ready to disband PE because he was tired of dealing with fall-out from Griff’s antisemitism... but then “Fight the Power” became a hit.https://www.vibe.com/2019/06/music-sermon-how-fight-the-power-saved-public-enemy …

It’s also important to note that @ the height of the Griff/PE firestorm, Def Jam was distributed by Columbia Recods, whose founding parent company is CBS, and was still under CBS at the time. So CBS - now back in partnership with Viacom - is NOT fcking with anything Griff-related

CBS was getting name checked in press and calls for boycotts by Jewish antidefamation groups. This isn’t just about whatever Nick said in that clip; this is bigger than Nino Brown. Some executive somewhere was like “Oh helllllllll no. We not doing this shit again.”

I agreee it definitely feels like a play to get out of his deal. Wildin’ Out is one thing (and I’m hearing he’s about to morph that into a different iteration) but Nick & TeenNick don’t really fit anymore. https://twitter.com/b_wyatt_tqmg/status/1283397094494085122?s=21 …https://twitter.com/B_Wyatt_TQMG/status/1283397094494085122 …

I see Nick on his evolution, especially since he dove in at HU, and that’s dope. He busted his ass as a young man, got a gang of money and residuals for the rest of his life, now wants to elevate. I just want him to seek better teachers, cause....

The problem with what we now call “hotepery” is that it borrows pieces of repuditable theology and ideaology and scholarship, mixes it up with harmful rhetoric, and serves up a final product that makes just enough sense for people to swallow the bullshit, too

The last thing I’m gonna say, for now, on the Nick/Griff topic is this: we can’t demand greater accountability from media for coded language and offenses covered with “that wasn’t my intent” and then turn around and practice the same...

We’re just as responsible for knowing the sources of rhetoric we’re repeating (like DeSean) and for rethinking sh*t we’re saying. For doing our own reaearch. Like a previous RT said, there’s no reason for our liberation to have even HINTS of anti-semitism.

Ok, sorry, one more thing: if you’ve never been to a holocaust museum... first of all, go, if you have an opportunity. I’ve been to the Memorial Museum in DC and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. In Yad Vashem, there’s a display of the anti-Jewish propoganda before the holocaust...

It was all about how Jewish people love money, control businesses, are greedy, etc. The London Jewish museum did an exhibit @ it a couple of years ago: https://www.haaretz.com/world-news/europe/.premium.MAGAZINE-jews-seen-as-all-about-the-benjamins-for-2-000-years-new-exhibition-shows-1.7042098 …pic.twitter.com/ASVHuzP8hU

Note that 3rd image was about one of the Rothschilds, who I believe Nick referenced in his convo with Griff. So, not much unlike us talking about elements of pop culture that derived from racist origins, casual references to “Jews controlling everything” is based in antisemitism

In entertainment and sports especially there IS a complicated relationship and dynamic between Black ppl and Jewish ppl. Sometimes Black folks are even making these statements with a certain amount of awe and respect, but when you understand they were used to poison perception...

Some may say “Well what if you’re pro-Palenstine,” and I still believe that’s a seperate conversation than being antisemitic

I read Nick’s update/statement that he’s heard from various rabbis, professors, etc and that he’s been invited to Israel. I’m curious to see if/how his view changes after the trip. I’m guessing it’ll be a bit like Malcolm’s enlightening after taking his Hajj.

If Nick’s genuine, good on him. Listen, we all know history is skewed, and that’s why you always have to seek multiple sources to learn from yourself - multiple. From various viewpoints. No school of thought should be fully embraced without question or challenge.pic.twitter.com/he9Hfu9AqJ

I don’t for one second believe Nick has abandoned all he’s been learning under the NOI, but he may have at least been genuinely made aware of how many not-so-coded antisemetic references (like “the 13 blood lines that control everything”) he made, and why they’re offensive.
