I just called @HeyEeeBee a black ass lie last week.

I’m partial to “I ain’t studyin’ her.” Such a firm dismissiveness. https://twitter.com/yvetterhe/status/1205351836535922688?s=21 …https://twitter.com/yvetterhe/status/1205351836535922688 …

And “fix your face” really does find its way into your toolkit more naturally as you get older. I even tell my mom that (she has ZERO poker face). https://twitter.com/wolf_reallydoe/status/1205350855312060416?s=21 …https://twitter.com/Wolf_ReallyDoe/status/1205350855312060416 …

“Who your people” is really some super Black sh*t. A police officer spent 10 minutes trying to figure out my “people” while I was getting processed at the jail in my mom’s town. (That’s another story) https://twitter.com/thegifkeeper/status/1205352894934978561?s=21 …https://twitter.com/TheGifKeeper/status/1205352894934978561 …

Oh, I forgot “fifty-lem” as a unit of measurement. “A whole” has also become a favorite unit of measurement over this last decade.

It’s from the phrase “God willin’ and the creek don’t rise,” from back in the pre-paved road days, when your plans on being at church or in town could be canceled due to a heavy rain creating a waterway you couldn’t cross on foot or with your horse. https://twitter.com/_harriedu/status/1205443273940258817?s=21 …https://twitter.com/_harriEDU/status/1205443273940258817 …

I am really really fascinated (and kinda surprised) by how many of y’all had to say “fib” or “telling a story” instead of “lie” growing up. But full disclosure, I was also a lying ass only child with a lying ass cousin, so there was really no way around that word in my house.

We weren’t telling stories, we were LYING. Like catch-us-doing-some-shit-and-we-look-you-in-your-face-and-say-we-didn’t lying.

That’s more a southern & some parts of midwest thing than a Black thing https://twitter.com/dlwilliams3/status/1205467974724964353?s=21 …https://twitter.com/DLWilliams3/status/1205467974724964353 …

I think this is where good intention falls apart for me. Ok, teach kids not to call someone a liar, cool. But you can still give them the power to say “___ lied,” or “that’s a lie” when the impact of THAT word is needed. https://twitter.com/still_y_e_n_i/status/1205473420877713408?s=21 …https://twitter.com/Still_Y_E_N_I/status/1205473420877713408 …

And I STILL don’t know what “Who shot John” looks like, but I know when somebody looks like it. https://twitter.com/mayorcooley/status/1205522762862714880?s=21 …https://twitter.com/MAYORCOOLEY/status/1205522762862714880 …

“Lookin’ like Who Shot John” fascinates me bc I know it has to be related to JFK’s assassination, and how did we get from that to an expression that means you look a hot ass unkempt mess?

So the first time I heard “Yo’ scary ass’ I think I was in high school, and I was SO CONFUSED, like “why would you used scary to mean easily scared? Scary means you scare ppl.” But I came to appreciate the frivolity of it. It’s just *lands* better. https://twitter.com/belladonnamerie/status/1205527231243665408?s=21 …https://twitter.com/belladonnamerie/status/1205527231243665408 …
