Two questions for plutes and plute defenders. 1. Do you believe this is a morally acceptable distribution? 2. If you think it’s not but that your philanthropy is at least helping, reply with hard evidence that you have helped reduce your class’s share.

For all at in Bologna: our productive programming tutorial will start soon in room Bianca B. Johannes will show techniques on how to tune C++ codes for FPGA and general hardware synthesis (hands-on). If you have to miss it check out

Something amazing just happened, and it didn’t make a single headline. It happened in a place you’ve probably never been, to a family you’ve never met And it's the best story you'll read. A Thread. (Hint: It involves sports, refugees, and what it means to be Canadian.)

Join me! ACM members, sign a petition supporting open access, asking to withdraw signature from anti-OA letter and make OA available at cost. OA is good for science, and good for ACM!

This shouldn’t need a petition. should clarify its anti open access position or risk losing a lot of members rapidly. scientific papers cannot be linked to business modes of a single country. Our funding agencies mandate Open Access.

So I'm helping a kid I know with some college applications and I have some thoughts. My friend has a GPA of over 4.0 and a star in track and cross-country. She grew up Black in a white rural town in CA--oh and she's homeless. She's living with a friend's family.

An interesting paper that was just published in collab w/ Intel showing side-chan defense is critical for FPGAs & other accelerators. They demo 'JackHammer', novel hardware attacks between the mem I/F of the FPGA & host CPU. It's faster & more reliable.

My feel good story today. Ponmariappan, a hairdresser in Tuticorin, gives customers 30% off if they read books while waiting their turn. Couldn't study beyond the 8th standard so he wants more people to read. But: you have to write the gist of what you read in a small book first!

2020 is going to be a strange year for Reconfigurable computing conferences with 3/4 top venues located in the US — FPGA, FCCM, and FPT are all in the US. Only FPL is in Europe. This distribution is representative of neither the FPGA market nor its practitioners/users.

*convince (but convolving the committee sounds very contemporary :P)

So sorry to hear this. It is an absolute travesty that authors are unable to present their work at prestigious conferences locked to the US. We need to convolve the steering committee to rotate ISFPGA outside North America like many other conferences like ISCA, etc do already.

This unfolding story deserves wider attention. ACM, the main academic society for computer science, has signed a despicable letter opposing open access. Computer scientists are shocked and figuring out how to protest. This is about the future of knowledge.

I doubt many US researchers support a US-centric position either. Computing has been international from its very roots.

I hate that kind of stuff. There are many different societies that hide their papers behind a wall. Some papers cost $100s of dollars to see papers paid for by tax dollars. It's holding back innovation!

    3. Do we even need to operate under ACM/SIGDA umbrella? looking at my twitter timeline, USENIX comes up a lot. Let's see if this can work for the reconfigurable computing community as well.

    2. ACM-branded conferences like ISFPGA () should migrate periodically outside the US. Read my position statement on the visa situation faced by non-US researchers
