I love when PhD’s romanticize being poor in grad school as if that makes it ok to contintue exploiting graduate students.

I sat on a university budget board as a grad student rep in the mid 90s and it was amazing how quickly faculty forgot about inflation when reminiscing about how they did fine on their pittance 20 to 30 years previously

I mean I can't pay my phone bill with $20 and a note saying "this is an amount akin to $100, if you add the value of all the night and weekend minutes I would have used and charged for the data as if I'd already exceeded the cap"
