The West is biased even in misery
I've covered so many wars in the Middle East, and the difference in the level of empathy and attention compared to what you see regarding the war in Ukraine really gives one pause.

I was thinking the same. Scott Morrison in Australia during taliban takeover: if anyone needs to escape and come to Australia there is a process they can follow. Now: we’ve already processed a bunch of Ukrainian visas, they are all going to top of the queue.

I agree… I could do screenshots right now and give you about 100 examples! It has opened the door for me to teach otherwise unsympathetic people about the plight of Iraqis, Syrians, Afghans who faced the same plight. They are listening and responding which gives me some hope.

Maybe it can help many Europeans realize that we can all become "refugees", one day or another.
