One of the more shocking things you can do is to measure your productivity rigorously, i.e. using a stopwatch. The total # of productive hours is surprisingly low because of breaks, distractions etc. 5-6 solid hours is a good workday.

Yeah that’s impressive. I measured this rigorously for 3 months when I was studying for exams and the lower end of that range was my max, studying morning till night.

In my experience it really depends on the consequences of mistakes. Doing stock research/portfolio management I could get 2-3 hours of focused work a day. Doing non-critical coding I can get 8 consistently
