What are the most unconventional and useful methods you have used to learn a foreign language?

Worked in France, had a ~25 min Uber journey to where I was working, 2x/ day - 100% of the time talked to the driver, explain I was learning French, & ask to practice with them; thus got ~1 hr of live French practice per day without having to schedule anything extra. It worked!

(Also, the non-obvious bit here for me was *explicitly asking to practice* - before this, I clammed up bc I was not confident in my French, whereas the explicit ask gave me "permission to be bad" and in fact induced them to help/correct me).
