Why isn’t Silicon Valley more engaged civically? For those that have done well, you don’t see folks engaging in local non-profits (the arts, homelessness, etc) the way people do in NY or LA. And given that we are nothing if not systems designers, can we design a solution? ##

Agreed that’s why I’m trying to get SV to contribute to
#extinctionrebellion and#Fridaysforfuture through supporting the development of software for them bc we know it can scale and have a disproportionate impact. The solution is taxes and public goods. Maybe they can make it into an app and call it “Govmint” so SV types can feel all innovative about it.

This is it. We are so damn innovative, but our non-profits haven’t modified to meet the new community.

I think it’s extremely important to bring up how nonprofit labor has traditionally been both gendered (female) and classed (upper). To work in the arts, a nonprofit, etc. assumes independent wealth, by and large. And that’s why I don’t work in publishing despite my internships.
