as someone who had a parent die and had to survive through it, you do what you can in that situation, and however you cope is just kind of how you cope. if the movie is showing bad things happening but the family working to try and get through, that's all you can do.

showing everyone immediately being OK would be possibly the worst thing the movie could do. you need to ... exist before you can do good, and getting back to existence is its own struggle in that situation. (and it's helped by family, being understanding.)

This is why I think Lilo & Stitch stuck with me more and had a better impact on me than The Lion King ever did, even though Lion King came out right around when my mom died. Simba just was sad for a bit and then seemed to move on. That did not send the best message to 7yo me.
