At transmediale, is presenting a moving message. Why are we willing to attribute intelligence to a machine and treat it like an equal moreso than we are able to do that for other humans, whose only differences from us are their gender, race or citizenship? 👏🏻

So cool. Warmest congratulations to you and to Dan Volmar. I'm glad I didn't attempt to read this until after I went thru a computer repair boot camp. Btw, there's a version of your article at an open access link. (idk why.) It displays better too.

He spent a *real long time* in the US Air Force archives so the rest of us didn't have to, and has such a good eye for the politics in the machine - give it a read if you work on postwar US, history of computing, or the absurdity of American defense establishment logics

I also want to point everyone to Dan's dissertation, The Computer in the Garbage Can: Air Defense Systems in the Organization of US Nuclear Command and Control, 1940-1960. Dan is such an exceptional historian who abhors social media so here it is!
