From the Wood Eye spy with my yellow eye something beginning with L. Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) eyeing up lunch in the Sycamore tree.

What a lovely day it turned out to be. We had a walk along the beach at Powfoot in Dumfries and Galloway, the sunshine opened these lovely Croci, alongside the Snowdrops they were a sight for sore eyes.

From the Wood. A poor Great Tit with Avian Pox, the lesions are awful but the bird is managing to feed.

From the Wood. For some reason the Jays have lost their confidence and are wary of the feeders. This one got some peanuts and flew off. Garrulus glandarius.

Just come home and there's the Sparrowhawk, sitting on the brash pile with a male Pheasant, probably moaning the poor service and the lack of food this morning! Robin will no doubt be adding to this list of complainants

From the Wood. Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) in the rain which seem to be never ending, along with the gales here in Cumbria. Probably needs a click to see his eyes

A mass protest is being held today over the future of the Lake District National Park. It's after recent proposals including cabin cruisers on Grasmere and four-wheel drive vehicles on fell tracks. Campaigners are marching from 11am along a section of the A591.

From the Wood Male Pheasant, looking a bit grumpy today. A few of the Pheasants this year have a deformed beak, doesn't seem to bother them. They are experts at finding my hidden fat stores.

From the wood today. Wild and windy but the Great Spotted Woodpecker braved the wind to come for a fat snack.

One of our local cats, Reggie, helping with rat control. Photographed through the fence. Where there's bird food, there's a rat

1881 Huge icefloes seriously damaged the Solway Railway Viaduct: "steel coming in violent contact with other portions of the ironwork threw off so much fire that the thick darkness was illuminated with a transient gleam of light". Story & images at

One from the wood. My log with holes is a peanut feeder, this wasn't quite what I had in mind when I set it up :)

From the wood Jay deciding if he wanted to be included in my Bird count. He came down eventually and filled up on peanuts, lots of birds about today but I don't submit the numbers.
