First of all, I'd already had background knowledge on the day per my reporting for @Rewire_News—so I knew of which symbols to look out for.https://rewire.news/article/2018/11/13/hate-group-figures-are-coming-to-philadelphias-pro-police-rally/ …

Some imagery: the Gadsden ("don't tread on me") flag, Blue Lives Matter symbols, Three Percenter attire. It's not just about looking for Swastikas but taking note of the entire room (or in this case, gated area). I also saw a rally goer with a German patch on his jacket.

@phillydotcom has since issued a correction but the real mistake made by not one but three reporters was not researching these symbols prior. Reporters owe the public a service of this knowledge, to identify hate and danger when it is present in our communities.Show this thread -
Some other big mistakes involve getting fooled by white supremacists. Despite low turnout, white supremacists consider any rally they have a success because their presence is tolerated and could very well happen again.

We already had Charlottesville, now the so-called We the People rally here in the "city of Brotherly Love"—approved by our very own Mayor who has since stayed quiet about this issue even after the Proud Boys have been deemed a white nationalist group by the FBI. What comes next?

Also do not disregard the police violence that occurred. Personally I was sexually assaulted by not one, but two officers, who both groped me. The second time it was a violent shove into a crowd of other people. Then another cop with a baton charged towards me but I got away.

I realized recently of the two Proud Boy videos on the attack, each has 4k comments, ALL pro PB, they're using as a recruiting tool.
