Would you mind doing an ELI5 for those of us who aren’t as technologically advanced? This seems like some tasty drama but I’m not super clear on what’s going on.

0day refers to a totally new security flaw that has had less than a day of exposure and is generally a very bad sign for whoever implemented it given it was discovered so quickly to have been found within 24 hours.

eli5: how is this a 0day if it's literally in the documentation available via a Google search?

"0-day bug" means that the bug was *always* present in the software because of the way the software was designed a lot of bugs are "in the documentation" in some sense -- emergent properties of different parts of complex systems interacting can lead to bugs

Atlassian is Australian right? Could this be a backdoor the govt forced them to implement?

No. A backdoor would be to just give the government a copy of the key or tell them where it was hidden. This, they left the key lying out.
