I get why conspiracy theories are flourishing now. But people should get a grip. There are paper ballots. The caucuses happen OUT IN THE OPEN FOR EVERYONE TO SEE. And each campaign has internal data to check if things are messy. There isn’t a wizard behind the curtain here.

precinct captain in rural Iowa responds to a caucus-goer flipping out upon learning that he has a same-sex partner. It’s a masterclass in patience, persistence, and love. Bravo

The geographic/socioeconomic breadth of Buttigieg’s support, based on limited results, is quite a bit higher than my priors.

Sanders focusing on 40% of precincts; Buttigieg camp is pushing internal data on 77% of returns—which show him on way to winning statewide delegate equivalent.

    (a) the DNC has no involvement in this election; (b) Bernie supporters occupy a significant number of positions in the IDP; (c) there are no hidden ballots, everyone votes publicly; (d) every candidate has an independent count; (e) there are paper backups

We don't know the result, but I'm pretty sure that entrance polls were adjusted to match sample precinct results (not perfectly representative!), and it looks like a Sanders-Buttigieg race around 22.5 or so with Warren/Biden back at 16, Klobuchar at 13

If you like Iowa's slow reporting, you'll love California's two-week counting of mail and provisional ballots The reality is it is more important to get the count right than get it fast

For everyone complaining about the Iowa Democratic Party doing "quality control," this is a process almost entirely put on by volunteers that is reporting numbers in unprecedented detail and dealing with security procedures to avoid foreign interference for the first time

So NYTimes is keeping track of 2nd vote (realignment), but from what I can tell, they're not telling us how many precincts have counted. But his is what they have so far: Buttigieg: 28% Sanders: 24% Warren: 16% Biden: 16%

Now Buttigieg moving ahead in that final alignment data, 27-23 over Bernie. Look, it's early, but Sanders and Pete are the two candidates who have the most to be happy about so far.
