There is something about facing utter destruction that allows me to reach the highest gear, care the most, and be the most productive. In school I was the ultimate procrastinator because I needed that pressure to perform. That is why startups got the most out of me.

After some success it is hard to recreate the fear that I felt in my early startup career. I need to find new sources of motivation. Thankfully I work at YC where I get the ultimate opportunity to give back to the startup community that changed my life for the better.

I was also a procrastinator throughout school... I'm quitting my job and working through YC Startup School starting in July. Fingers crossed that the feeling of impending destruction has the same impact on me 😅

Same here. If only it were possible to be always as productive as I’ve been in the final days of each semester in college...

I always thought my procrastination in school was a flaw. I hadn't associated it with my willingness to bootstrap. Always dropping knowledge, thanks.

I would add color to that fear: it’s also big opportunity and gains among company of people you really admire, have confidence in their ability to propel you or grow with you whom you don’t want to let down just as much as you don’t want to let yourself down.pic.twitter.com/i7DGWAmJ4M

Extreme achievement usually comes from some combination of extreme fear and extreme ambition.

I agree. IMO, pressure is earned - and there is nothing more fun than pressure you can alleviate with your own blood, sweat, tears and savvy.

Efficient workers don't need all the time that's given to them to do things. They tend to learn what appears irrelevant until their efficiency seems inadequate to do what they have to in the given time.
