Everyone talks about the network and brand value of being a YC founder. But the mentorship/advice is drastically underrated. That’s two or three times now it’s saved us from going down a path that likely leads to death.

YC is very familiar with death and is very interested in helping our companies avoid it. Too many investors are focused on growth above all else. As if everything they invest in has perfect product market fit and is ready to explode right now.

          3) VCs love thinking about maximizing the upside. Invest more / grow faster. Why don’t they develop skills to manage downside risk? Do you have a process for when portfolio companies begin to struggle? Or do you let founders fend for themselves (bc “it doesn’t matter”)?

Alternatives start to emerge though. With @Common1nterest for instance we try to give founders a tool to incentivize stakeholders and users beyond the value prop. We are giving founders one more tool to solve growth and build a sustainable company in the long-term.
