I have now categorised my (physical) book backlog. This counts as progress, right?pic.twitter.com/QW9EdI2NQk

Finished Normal! Good. Funny. Deeply queasy-making. One more for Warren's Grim Meathook Future collection. (That one probably didn't deserve to end up in the "Heavy" pile.) Next up from the Easy pile, Ted Chiang, "Exhalation". (FWIW, "easy" != "stupid")
Took advantage of the public holiday to read "Driven to Distraction", a book on ADD/ADHD. Practical, easy to read and illuminating.
(alert readers may have noticed that I said I was starting Exhalation. This is true! However, the whole point of the easy/heavy/holy/culture/self-improvement/programming system is that i can fit my mood to my book diet without being paralysed by the indecision of a book wall.)
Exhalation, Ted Chiang. SF short stories, expectedly great. Maybe nothing with the raw punch of "Understand" but it seems churlish to complain about mere excellence. My picks: "Exhalation", "The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate" & "The Lifecycle of Software Objects".
"One Up on Wall Street". Don't know how valid a book on stock trading from 1989 is, but interesting and well-written nonetheless. The recommendation to invest in small well-run firms you know personally is a little awkward when software IPOs happen at a billion USD though.
Certainly interesting that he'd tagged Apple as a good long term stock in 1989 and had a million shares when it was a buck thirty.
"A Walking Tour Of The Shambles", @neilhimself and Gene Wolfe. A delightful little iceberg of a book. Lonely Planet meets Jack the Ripper at the Mountains of Madness, perhaps? Hundreds of wry, understated jokes - I should probably read some Gene Wolfe.
"The Dreaming, Vol 2: Empty Shells" Enjoying seeing other writers play in Gaiman's world more than I really expected to. More questions raised than answers given, but I suppose that's to be expected this early in the arc. Beautiful art as always.
