(Caveat: I’m not promising to build a universal version of this, or open source it. But who knows? Either way, I will *definitely* write down all the details and the outcomes of my findings.)

Current ideas: - a few delightful mini interactions - ability to leave notes or even edit in place for those who enjoy that - guided questions that make it easier to get specific feedback - really nice reading experience overall on desktop and mobile (night mode, font size, etc.)

Oh my god, Firefox looks at the skin tone modifier weirdly, and decides to split the two-character emoji in between two lines… resulting in actual EMOJI BODY HORROR. (white-space: nowrap fixes Firefox’s cronenbergian tendencies)pic.twitter.com/FoEWJt56CY

How do you select a bit of text to append a note? Regular old highlighting?
-
Yeah, possibly on desktop. Highlighting on mobile is a pain, so either two taps (one to open menu, one to add note where you are), or some mode where you draw a freeform selection with a finger, and then a text field appears on release. /cc

I like the idea of asking readers for their expectations at the beginning of the chapter, especially with the mix of inline comments with review of the whole chapter.

Emoji reactions to classify feedback seems nice, but it could confuse matters without further guidance, especially if the interface doesn't encourage users to add a comment to explain the reaction. Does gritted teeth mean an awkward sentence wording? Or scary subject matter?
