That works much better. The input field itself is still a single line, but the segmented type appears on multiple lines
Thanks for the link! The difference between key presses and input definitely feels important. As for the last, it just felt very brittle and I wasn’t sure if there weren’t any side effects. (Just conceptually, focus of an invisible control feels kind of nasty?)

Yeah, on Android there's really no notion of "keypress" - eg. The "keyboard" could just recognize written words and not have "keys" at all. Yeah might be cleaner to expose a lower level API outside the DOM, but there's lots to define and not clear how valuable it would be.

Interestingly this doesn't seem to be 100% true. Enter does send a keypress, and backspace sends a keypress if the input field is empty.
