I think I’m beginning to love kaomoji more and more because they’re both typographically inventive, and wonderfully exotic. Emoticons are usually just restricted to ASCII, but kaomoji often reach deep into Unicode.

on iOS, the Japanese (Romaji) keyboard has a kaomoji button! It also remembers the ones you use, and reorders the list by activity ☆−(^_^)−☆pic.twitter.com/kzdiMHJoVq

Yes! I remember seeing it for the first time and being very, very perplexed. It feels more natural now for keyboards to do that; but I think this was probably before widespread adoption of emoji.

I wonder where do they get them from. If only someone was writing a book about keyboards and I could just ask them… ⊙︿⊙
