STC Executel desktop “smart phone” keyboard from 1984. (I restored the colour palette from a reference photo. It seems few that survived had plastics that yellowed really badly.)pic.twitter.com/3c0eodP5pJ

IBM Upright Typewriter prototype, from 1981, designed by Richard Sapper. (…with what looks like a really early Model M keyboard!)pic.twitter.com/xovnCmduAG
This 1959 electric Royal HP with a cantilevered keyboard is so rare it’s impossible to find photos of it. But I confirmed it *does* exist. (The two keys on each side of the spacebar are down arrow and right arrow, effectively.)pic.twitter.com/byuoTlOZKv
One of the great thing about computers is that their evolution was so much more complex and fascinating than just “let’s add a screen to a typewriter.” On an unrelated note, here’s Olivetti ETV 240/250/260, a typewriter with a screen added to it.pic.twitter.com/mavLMZd5Fg
This was likely really awful to type on, but this is the most helveticaest of all the keyboards. (A Hungarian 1980s home computer called Homelab 2, or Aircomp 16.)pic.twitter.com/SngEoD1Ym3
This is a generic 1970s IBM terminal keyboard, but the way this photo portrays it makes it so attractive. (Also, a really early example of filling out all the space around spacebar with keys.)pic.twitter.com/dsc1W5BHmG
A special blinged out edition of Royal Quiet De Luxe from 1949. “The gold-plated machine was produced in a limited edition and sold at a considerable price. Apparently, one of them was owned by author Ian Fleming.”pic.twitter.com/Pk4MIA1mw6
Yet Another Olivetti, this time a “wedge” from the last generation of typewriters – but also the most incredible typewriter carrying case I’ve ever seen.pic.twitter.com/YwOPQIn0Zv
I can’t decide whether this 1980 IBM Displaywriter word processing keyboard is very pretty or incredibly boring.pic.twitter.com/m4BTL7SIf6
I think it's very pretty (but I'm a dork. Ask an actual cool person)
“Cool” people are overrated. ^_^ Also, I just ordered your book!!!
