My set back in my web design days (late 90s) was 2 screens, 1 portrait (for code) the other landscape (for design/review). Always ended up browsing on the portrait one.
I considered portrait at some point for casual computing, but it was awkward since subpixel rendering was broken or absent when rotated. Might be worth revisiting in the age of retina!
