I found some other keyboards clad in interesting liveries.pic.twitter.com/3WsILAbCrz
But I am not going to lie: it was kind of awesome to see shelves and shelves filled with keyboards.pic.twitter.com/fl7CF1Loh5
(A lot of it was dedicated to gaming, but not all of it.)pic.twitter.com/E4QZZu5GKA
Some gaming keyboards had little trailers next to them! GAME WITH PASSION. WIN WITH SCIENCE. PWN YOUR VI. CRUNCH NUMBERS ON THE BATTLEFIELD. EXTREME EDGEEEEEEEpic.twitter.com/LGPJw27LFI
Keyboard-related purchases count: 4 I got this fascinating one-handed cheap gaming keyboard. I’m a bit intimidated to get it out of the box. …and puzzled about the keys that stray away from QWERTY. Are those typical for one game, or common across many games?pic.twitter.com/crWmavjZCx
The use of the WASD keys for movement is very common for PC games. First-person games in particular and MMOs as someone else has mentioned. These keyboards can be a useful tool for digital artists too. Here’s one Japanese artist fully utilizing hers:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYcYBXaW_Xo …
No, I get the WASD part, just not sure about everything else. They don’t do regular QWERTY keys layout outside of WASD and things immediately around it. That video’s really cool.
/cc @bradneuberg for that video
Hah that’s great, Engelbart would have loved that - you can work with one hand while continuing to issue commands with the other (increased capability was one of his big focuses)
Yeah, I recognize that pattern from my use of Photoshop (modifier keys and command keys with left hand, mousing with the right), but this it taking it much further.
Also related, IBM 2250, from 1965 I believe. A light pen + an overlay/function keyboard. Brad, do you know if this predates Doug Engelbart’s setup?pic.twitter.com/IlbT81mXiO
Yeah light pens were all the rage in the early 60s. Engelbart hated them as he felt they didn’t have rich enough interaction. Also they cause “gorilla arm” and you get tired quickly with them.
