Well Metro and subway are 2 different things: subway is an underground system; metro is a system above or below ground that runs regularly with no timetable. So they are not synonyms, although in this case you were looking for a subway metro

I have to say I never figured out the whole system. It seemed like many train companies doing many similar things. :·)
