A pull quote makes sense in a newspaper or magazine, which you browse through, see an interesting pull quote, and then decide to read the article. But on the web, scrolling through an article, you've already decided to read it.

All it accomplishes is to break up the rhythm of writing, and introduce an element that doesn't belong, making the reader leave the flow and find it again. It's jarring. And at worst, it acts as a spoiler.
