For most of my life, I used to think of anger as a personality flaw. That changed during the last year, when attending protests and listening to others made me wonder if my life has been rather anger-free also, to some extent, because it’s been a life of relative privilege.

Linus is a touchy subject for me. The canonical asshole genius, enabled by the industry (and popular culture) for far too long. Every time I see a shitty comment on GitHub or Stack Overflow I think of him and how undervalued empathy and compassion are in technology.

Feeling anger is healthy, it lets us know that a wrong has been done or something is unfair. I think it’s important to distinguish between making room for feelings and letting feelings dictate action. Feelings are not instructions.
