Oh, yeah, no, that’s true – towards the end of his life, Sholes hated QWERTY and the original typewriter, and wrote with pen. (He also invented another typewriter and another keyboard layout, but those went nowhere.)
Glidden only got his name on the machine because he was super cranky, even though Densmore did more work than him – and maybe even more than Sholes himself. If you get a chance to find Current’s book “The Typewriter and the Men Who Made It,” it’s a really great read.
