Unpopular opinion: 280 character Tweets slow down TLs. Visual flow is worse than reading threads. Makes Twitter feel more like Facebook.

Follow over 3500 accounts; swift reader. I find myself lingering on single Tweets when they're 200+ characters. Takes getting used to.

(If this continues, I may have to go on an unfollowing spree later this fall, so I can get some semblance of timeline flow again. Sigh.)

The value of the platform is that you have to learn how to encapsulate information in a tiny package. Good Tweets are like poetry.

Making Tweets twice as long means that word economy is lost. So far, reading those of my TL, I want either less or more. 280 =/= no good.

280 character Tweets I've seen are rambles, or could be expanded into a blog post, article, or paper. Again, just my opinion on the update.

Yes, it's annoying to thread, but the way Twitter worked before, you didn't have to invest beyond the first Tweet if you weren't interested.

I'm just not finding many longer Tweets that I want to RT. Although that could just be me, and my preferences as a digital reader.

Agree wholeheartedly. Better UI for thread creation/consumption would be so much more welcome than 280.
