Teletype the company influenced ASCII, but the code and keyboard are very unlike previous Teletype codes and keyboards
They wanted to break with their past and have a keyboard as much like a typewriter as possible
Was it ASR-33 et al. that was the first ASCII keyboard?
The code was a compromise btwn Teletype, which wanted typewriter organization, and computer interests that wanted logic
Logic=putting related symbols in sequence and enabling 4- and 5- and 6-bit subsets. Everyone assumed bit pairing
Did any of these considerations reappear later in Unicode?
Unicode cares about logical organization at least at the level of 256-char blocks. Does not care at all about keyboard precedent
Cares a little about sorting but I think always assumed good sorting would require a separate collation table
