I love contrived logo-use guidelines that basically spend time saying “please use the actual logo”.

I kind of hate the official one, too. It has two weird small appendages I cannot unsee now.
In short, don't ever modify an existing logo.
This is fair enough. If I had a brand I would want to keep it consistent everywhere instead of lots of different confusing variations
