      There is a planned chapter on numeric keypads. This is a nice example of domestication/commoditization of technology.

          Although the numbers don't seem to match their conclusions. It looks like copying the dial layout was faster and had less errors.

          I can't find that study online anywhere. Apparently Netherlands was the first to implement touch-tone phones though.
