      How come they type N between every character? Does it become a stress test from its positioning or something like that?

      Pretty much... helps when checking how well the type adheres to the top and baseline. Makes it obvious that characters are typing too high or too low. And whether verticals are vertical or twisted - since you also have the two vertical lines in the N.

      Wouldn’t the lowercase alphabet then benefit by using “l” instead of “n”? Or using “N” would also diagnose issues with the shift mechanism.

      Relationship to those “N”s would clearly show a problem with the shift mechanism. When I get home I’ll check the “strike-ups” I did under Peter Tytell’s watchful eye - for forensic casework. (I don’t recall shifting between LC letters when doing them.) 1/2
