Yeah, in a programming languages context, I imagined you would just make the whole language lowercase, so your pinky handles Bold key instead of Shift In a human language context, maybe get there by mostly leaving capitalization to autocorrect, like on phone keyboards today?

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4951226.html Search for "bold key 9". There is also a link to the patent pdf with images showing the extra function keys in a vertical column on the right side of the typewriter. Old IBM keyboards copied this vertical column of function keys but on the left.
