For all the font foundries or type designers wondering how best to make sure their fonts behave well in @figmadesign, I just published a small guide on how Figma uses font metrics. Let me know if I missed anything important!https://www.figma.com/community/file/838187493478834415 …

My own approach has been mostly to set the useTypoMetrics flag only when the Win metrics need to differ from the Typo metrics, and always when I've carefully considered the latter and really do want them to be used. So I can say, yeah, the flag is reliable for my fonts.

I would be concerned that *maybe* some font makers are setting the flag without understanding why, but in general I think font makers have got better about working with vertical metrics and understanding compatibility options. In the late 90s and early 2000s, things were a mess.

I like Jens’ suggestion. 1) Users are familiar with this approach. 2) No need to make assumptions about whether or not fonts’ vertical metrics data can be trusted.https://twitter.com/jenskutilek/status/1256950234372071426 …

I don’t fully understand. That seems to address line height calculations, but still doesn’t solve the problem of positioning the baseline within whatever line height is chosen, no?
