(Note the sign that I made at a sign-making/lettering class five years ago – the book not even an idea yet – which became something of a secret motto/rallying cry.)pic.twitter.com/7UnznvqQpn
Had a little collaborative Figma/Zoom session yesterday with my good friend @sall to figure out the section breaks in my book. If you’ve seen them done elsewhere or have favourite treatments, please let me know!pic.twitter.com/UGMWT9QfzP
In Visions I've used a bunch of different treatments (drawing, icon, abstract...) but always centred (like an asterism). I can suggest looking at Warnock, Chaparral and Minion for some nice decorative glyphs.pic.twitter.com/OqCO8uydOU
Thanks! They’re too decorative/old-school for this book (which has more of a “mechanical” vibe).
Alas. We were thinking of something typewriter-y/keyboard-y, but no obvious shapes came to mind – with the exception of variants of ⮐ (plus, the “rewind” glyph was one of them, lifted from an old Selectric).
Yes, I think that return symbol is my favourite of the bunch. It works thematically and it’s not too twee (and can be used in the margin to save a bit of space!)
I like the version that hangs in the left margin. Unusual in a good way.
I’m a bit worried that it looks very “webby” and it won’t work if there is an image on the left of text… But I might try it out.
Might not be practical in all situations, yeah. I also like the right-aligned left-pointing arrow but maybe it could work centred? The downstroke also seemed overly short to me.
Thanks. I’ll try a different shape! I don’t, however, like centered things. :·)
