Restaurant traffic showing how social distancing is playing out across the country, data from OpenTable: https://bit.ly/33hS6IA  I've been curious whether there would be some differences in behavior in "red" and "blue" states, looks like there ispic.twitter.com/BGA6Asun4j

1/Don't think you can do a causation+correlation here. 2/you can't say red vs. blue because most cities are blue. 3/Seattle is a special situation as are SF+NY on a smaller scale.4/ Doubt if they have Open Table in rural areas but rural vs city is the more appropriate comparison

Completely agree with Chris. Putting pseudoscientific stuff like this out in the world isn’t ethical, especially given the situation we’re in right now.

I didn’t make an argument for causation, or claim that it was scientific. It’s an observation, and there does appear to a difference. Right now we have no testing data, and knowing which cities/regions are starting to take precautions is both interesting and useful.

If it’s not scientific, why put it out? What do we benefit here from not using science? And, you *did* make an argument for causation (“looks like there is.”)

I would say that’s an observation, not an argument. At most that’s an argument for correlation, not causation It’s too early to have any science on this. There is only emerging data. The benefit is seeing which areas are starting to socially distance and those that aren’t.
