I have a question for you! Those seem to be the prime/dumb quotation marks around the letters. Do you know whether this is intentional by the font designer/producer, or a limitation of the string format?

Good question! Things seem to compile fine with the smart quotes. Here's the name table of a built font, and the features in Figma:pic.twitter.com/XFK1SrequT

Nice! Thanks for checking. Now let’s hope other apps handle this as well. :·)

It‘s kind of an interesting challenge for both sides: type designers need to make sure their strings do the job and work everywhere, while app designers need to make sure the UI stays consistent…

…and some of the metadata rough edges are smoothed out (particularly as those strings are just strings and come with few guidelines).

Yeah, it’s definitely a challenge on both ends! Thanks for working to make Figma work so well. :)

Funnily enough, I am planning to give a talk about how much work it is to get simple things like even pressing ⌘B work well under all the circumstances (given how metadata and type strings can be all over the place!). This is just a tiny corner of the same universe.

No kidding! Similarly, making style-linking work predictably as a font developer is way harder than it would seem. Fonts are complex!

Oh, yeah? Tell me more if it’s easy to put in a tweet? :·)

Font names must be shorter than about 30 chars (maybe fewer?) to work on Windows. Font names can be beta, static, and versioned. Name 1 should match; name 2 should style-link. https://github.com/arrowtype/recursive/blob/master/src/build-scripts/set-versioned-font-names.py … I think the STAT table also needs sorting for this all to work properly.
