@figma @rsms @mwichary First off: I *love* your UI for OpenType features. It's really nice! One issue: everything is Title Cased, so the names of stylistic sets can become misleading. "Simplified Mono 'R'" is a confusing change of the feature name "Simplified mono 'r'."pic.twitter.com/C0hFk2Qcif

To directly state my confusion: "Simplified Mono 'R'" sounds like the capital R is simplified. "Simplified mono 'r'" is more clearly about the lowercase r.

I have a question for you! Those seem to be the prime/dumb quotation marks around the letters. Do you know whether this is intentional by the font designer/producer, or a limitation of the string format?

Good question! Things seem to compile fine with the smart quotes. Here's the name table of a built font, and the features in Figma:pic.twitter.com/XFK1SrequT

Nice! Thanks for checking. Now let’s hope other apps handle this as well. :·)

It‘s kind of an interesting challenge for both sides: type designers need to make sure their strings do the job and work everywhere, while app designers need to make sure the UI stays consistent…

…and some of the metadata rough edges are smoothed out (particularly as those strings are just strings and come with few guidelines).

Yeah, it’s definitely a challenge on both ends! Thanks for working to make Figma work so well. :)

Funnily enough, I am planning to give a talk about how much work it is to get simple things like even pressing ⌘B work well under all the circumstances (given how metadata and type strings can be all over the place!). This is just a tiny corner of the same universe.

No kidding! Similarly, making style-linking work predictably as a font developer is way harder than it would seem. Fonts are complex!
