Wow, that sounds like maybe a bug. Inter definitely supports superscript. What version of inter (and font format, eg otf or ttf) are you using?

I don't have to install Inter for it to be there on Figma right? However I did install it to use it in other apps, the latest version from website. V3.10 OTF on Mac. The bug is only on Figma. It's working fine on Keynote.

Are you using the Figma desktop app, or have you installed the Font helper service?

Thanks. That means the font is sourced from your local OS.

Oh. Actually I was already working on Figma desktop app using Inter, and later installed the font to get it on Keynote. Are you saying if it's installed Figma takes from local OS? So should I uninstall and check again?

OK I got the problem. My design has a price element and I was trying to make just the $ symbol as superscript and it's not supported. The rest of the text is changing. Whereas in Keynote it's working fine. Please ignore if it's expected behavior.

Yeah, Figma’s text rendering doesn’t support synthesized/faux superscript/subscript – so you get only what the font creator gives you, but it’s high quality.

Keynote fakes all of the superscript/subscript (ignoring even those characters that the fonts support), which can be more convenient, but also… iffy. Hard balance! Thanks for the feedback. Helps us to (re)consider those decisions.

Left = Figma
Right = Keynote
Each one breaks a heart, but in a different way!
In the meantime, you can petition Rasmus to add a superscript $ to Inter to solve your particular problem.

@ooomz Lastly, I’ll make a change so that the UI says “doesn’t support X for these characters” when you select particular characters – thanks for reporting!1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -
Yeah that'll say where the problem is. Super/Subscript in Figma could give first priority to font and if not fall back to faux. If it's technically possible. Just a thought. Meanwhile I'll wait for
@rsms to add font support :-)1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes - Show replies
