I believe it’s a combination of all of these, depending on time and place! One factor later on was also that bigger CRTs were heavier – too heavy for some portable products.

I think also whatever memory was required for screens might have been too pricey.

You'd be right on that. We get spoiled paying $75 for 8Gb of memory. I remember my employer paying $8,000 for 128Kb of memory. We also bought a $85,000 IBM 31Mg Hard Drive that was the size of a bar fridge.pic.twitter.com/ZLUWwIvWtJ
