We’re altering the way we handle text in Figma. To find the right solution, @mwichary dove into the beautifully complex history of type and vertical alignment. More here:https://buff.ly/2XPfVUn

Lastly: web doesn’t do some things all that well text-wise, and I don’t just want to perpetuate them. ;·)

Totally get that. It’d just be nice to be able to make a designing Figma, layout my text.. and have it be a 1000% accurate representation of what I’ll build. Especially if I was building a tool to turn Figma designs into code.

I think there are plenty designers who would know the difference. Especially if you pop a modal saying “you’re about to change how text is rendered”. Personally I’d LOVE the design app to mimic the platform. Otherwise there is inconsistency between mock and implementation.

One of the biggest issues Figma has is that it does not fully emulate the web and is not built on HTML/CSS rendering. This means they have to one-by-one recreate already existing functionality like this, or hover states, or buttons resizing with content.
