Two great examples of extracting unusual extra info from an old recorded signal. Does anyone know of more?

3. Apparently there are ways to recover sound based on vibrations of the objects in recorded video – great with high-speed camera, but can work even with regular 60fps video (and be used for spying!). (thx

4. Not quite new unexpected info, but re-running the tapes of lunar landings again to achieve higher quality and see meteor activity on the lunar surface more precisely. (Fascinating project!) (thx

5. Somewhat similar: playing back recorded audio that couldn’t be played back at the time because the tech didn’t exist yet – includes audio of a few people singing in 1860 (!). (thx

6. Original copies of Mike Oldfield’s album “Tubular Bells” were made near a VLF transmitter and inadvertently contain a secret Morse code transmission – which someone only realized much later. https://hamgear.wordpress.com/2015/03/09/tubular-bells-and-vlf-interference/ … (thx

7. Of course, in the modern world there are also parallel issues, such as this AOL snafu from a decade ago:https://www.cnet.com/news/aol-apologizes-for-release-of-user-search-data/ …

When I wrote cvs2svn I was able to determine the range of time in which a tag was created in CVS. Tags are unversioned data, but by analyzing the versions that had an identical tag across the entire repository, I could create a time bracket within which the tag was created :)

Beta VCRs used to record Teletext almost flawlessly! Most VHS ones didn't quite have enough bandwidth, so you were lucky.

How do the character set differences work, exactly? There are enough differences in e.g. the headlights (even in positions that seem like solid blocks on both images) that it doesn't quite make sense to me.

@ZXGuesser will know the answer. :·)
