We’ve seen this not so long ago with the “hold space to move cursor” trick in iOS, too. “Where have you been all my life” years down the road doesn’t feel like a good UI strategy.

I only discovered space bar scrolling a few weeks ago. I’ve had various iPhones for 8 years. Virtual keyboards are unique because they can reconfigure by command or context. But because they rely on the physical keyboard metaphor there’s a limit to how you expect them to work.

Yep! I agree. (Although, to be fair, spacebar scrolling only appeared a few months ago.)
