Funny, I've also just been thinking about this in regards to emails and texts. "Shoot me an email."

Good question! I'll dig into this a bit, but my impulse is yes. I think "shooting a message" has a distinct history and it's one I saw a lot in my archival work on the pneumatic tube mail system.

Useful insight. There's also something Freudian about, "shooting a photo," that irks me. What if we all agreed to switch en masse to "collecting a photo," or "gathering some light?"

"taking a photo" works as well, taking in the sense of capturing an image goes back 300+ years, so solid lineage.
