Makes sense. Or even ridiculously long text notes. But if, as an author, you choose to use them, in whatever fashion, and you feel it is important, they are more likely to be consumed.
I guess my thought is you're going to use them or not, and the current convention makes it more likely than not that they will be ignored, dismissed. I have a hard time believing many readers read all notes from #InfiniteJest, if any
