Sorry, I’m confused. Are we still talking about footnotes on paper? I think inlining them like above would cause other issues (why not parentheses?). Sidenotes are an interesting solution, but that works only for larger books.
I'm talking about footnotes in general. Parentheses are good for small bits of content, but if the content is longer then scanning for the resolving ) becomes much harder. --- Whereas finding the end of a block like this is much easier. ---
