I’m giving a talk today while jet lagged, emotionally exhausted after a night of watching midterm results, in the middle of a cold, and with two lithium-ion batteries strapped to my ankles. Please wish me luck. 0_O

Post partum: I think it went well! My body was aching and there were technical difficulties, but I think I managed to hide both from the audience. And the batteries did not explode. Thank you all for best wishes.

I try to write down my thoughts after giving a talk in the interest of improving (either this talk, or my public speaking in general) – what felt right or wrong, etc. I don’t know if this is useful for anyone – many items are highly contextual – but I thought I’d share here.pic.twitter.com/ENoykHHbEw

Also, something that really worked for me (particularly for live demos) is an old-fashioned cheat sheet taped next to the trackbar. Invisible to the audience, super helpful in a pinch, and delightfully cryptic and mysterious as a bonus.pic.twitter.com/xmY3ZgRs3N

Okay, this is my talk! 45 minutes of keyboards and art and all sorts of fun things from typewriter mysteries, through ELIZA and PLATO emoticons, to Japanese keyboards and modern iPhones. I hope you enjoy:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u22w2t0DV4 …

Really enjoyed your talk! Maybe some of the contemporary artists would appreciate being credited though? But all in all, lots of love and effort in this. All thumbs up!

Yeah, that’s good criticism. I tried to offload credits to the follow up thingy, but not sure if that was a good idea. Thanks for watching!

(I wrote myself a to-do item to spend some time doing this better next time I do this talk or any other talk.)
