I think there's an assumption that conference spaces engender an environment where the Brownian motion of attendees will randomly cause connections. However, many techies are introverts so that theory may be invalid.

That’s harder for me for obvious reasons – *gestures widely at own face* – except for not choosing conferences where all speakers look like me. :·) A lot of time on this thread has been spent discussing office hours. Are there other things you’ve seen work well?
